Our Mission Satement

Hi all,
Noted author and Whidbey Island Resident Lawrence Cheek has done a wonderful job of coalescing the thoughts of the Art of the Boat steering committee into the succinct and useful Mission Statement that follows.  And thanks to photographer Curtis Adams for his image of the classic motor yacht Althea.  Lovely Curt!

Whidbey Island’s Art of the Boat festival celebrates the beauty   of boats, the perfect fusion of art and science. It showcases the various talents—artists, writers, musicians, and boat builders—who find inspiration in watercraft. And it embraces the spirit and history of our island, a place naturally dependent on boats.

Something new coming to Coupeville!

Why do we see beauty in Boats?

Perhaps the same reason that we see
beauty in nature, in an orca’s
body or an osprey’s wing.
Boats borrow their forms from nature,
so their art and science
are one and the same.
Come to Coupeville, Washington on
September 14th and see their beauty for yourself.
